Participants are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2015 Millennium Cup tomorrow, taking place in the new location of the Bay of Islands.
This year's superyacht regatta - held for the first time in conjunction with the Bay of Islands Sailing Week, from 21 to 23 of January - will see an array of impressive charter yachts compete around a course highlighting New Zealand's beautiful cruising grounds offers as a charter destination. The 2015 edition will also celebrate the quality of builds from the Dubois shipyard, with a special 'Dubois race day' organised exclusively for Dubois yachts to take place in.
The event showcases the best of the country's superyacht sector in a laid-back setting, particularly highlighting innovation in the industry and the importance of a skilled workforce. Participants include one of the largest composite sloops, 37m charter yacht BLISS, delivered in 2009 by Yachting Developments, boasting outstanding sailing performance, and 50m SILENCIO, a pedigree Perini Navi-build.
The will be part of a 7-strong fleet including 'JANICE OF WYOMING' and previous winner in 2009 and 2012 SILVERTIP. Captain Blair Macleod of SILVERTIP commented last year that the Millennium Cup is "fun regatta with a competitive edge."
