One of the world’s most iconic ocean races, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will be back in December with sails, speeds and a vibrant carnival atmosphere.
The upcoming edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will kick off, as usual, on Boxing Day in Sydney. A flotilla of yachts will race out of Sydney Harbour, following the east coast of Australia down to Tasmania and arriving in the city of Hobart in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve.
Measuring 628 nautical miles, the course is often described as the most gruelling long ocean race in the world and is a challenge for anyone who takes part. Competitors range from weekend club sailors to professionals from the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race circuits.
The race start in Sydney attracts hundreds of spectator craft and hundreds of thousands of people lining the shore and, from here, yachts traverse the beautiful New South Wales coast before crossing the Bass Strait where the water is relatively shallow and the winds are often strong.
Tactical sailing is then required to approach Hobart on the east coast of Tasmania and reach the finish line off historic Battery Point. Hundreds of people crowd the foreshores of Sullivans Cove to cheer the yachts and their crews.
To take in the thrilling racing and lively atmosphere, charter a luxury yacht and secure the best seats in the house. For more details, speak to your preferred charter broker.
