New York state capped sales taxes for boats costing more than $230,000, lifting spirits and increasing sales at the annual New York Boat Show in the Javits Centre this month.
Showcasing the latest in luxury motor yachts, jet boats, personal watercraft, and new marine technologies, the New York Boat Show 2016 was reported by various news sources to be the busiest yet.
Drawing in the crowds was the recent cap on sales tax on vessels costing more than $230,000, a step taken by the US government in order to help stimulate the yachting industry in the US.
Encouraging sales and bringing work to the city, the cap should hopefully inspire the sale and construction of new charter yachts in the near future.
Thom Dammrich, the head of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, pointed out that a similar cap in Florida a few years ago has had an undeniably positive impact on the industry.
He went on to explain how ‘people who were buying boats elsewhere decided to buy in Florida’. With New York set to experience a similar effect, it’s sure to get exciting Stateside.
If you are considering a luxury charter vacation in the United States, why not have a look at the yachts currently available in North America.
