Bali Benoa Marina: Construction Begins as the Region Prepares to Welcome Indonesia Yacht Charters

By Katie Scott   3 July 2025

Breaking ground on the first full-service superyacht marina in the area, construction has begun on phase one of the Bali Benoa Marina, setting the scene for indulgent Indonesia yacht charters.

First announced in October 2024, Yacht Charter Fleet reported plans for Indonesia's first full-service superyacht marina, with details specifying staged construction and a total of 180 berths, with around 50 specifically being designated for South East Asia yacht charters up to 295ft (90m).

Upon completion, some of the amenities at the premium marina will include a range of top-tier hospitality and dining facilities, a yacht club, retail establishments, a 200-ton travel lift, and fuelling stations.

The Bali Benoa Marina is a key anchor within the larger Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH), envisioned as a centralised gateway for superyacht marina, cruise ports, and waterfront tourism experiences.

With the current marina offering a temporary arrangement for up to 30 motor yacht charters under 55.7ft (17m), the development project brings together multiple international bodies to ensure that the vision to create Southeast Asia’s premier yachting destination lifts off the page and is completed to the highest possible standard.

The opulent 3.3-hectare waterfront development, being led by 2M Design Lab, draws inspiration from the Balinese philosophy of Sad Kerthi, with SF Marina Sweden providing supervision for the construction of the pontoons, and the Italian firm Plus Marine will be using a SmartCloud remote metering system for the electricity and water pedestals.

Construction Plan for Bali Benoa Marina

  • Phase 1 (Q4 2025): Dock B will be completed with 40 berths, offering essential utilities and a dedicated welcome station for visiting motor and sailing yacht charters. This initial stage will support pilot operations and allow for early testing of core marina services.
  • Phase 2 (Q2 2026): The marina will introduce its full suite of technical capabilities, including vessel maintenance and repair facilities, specialist workshops, integrated fuelling systems, and enhanced docking support to meet the operational demands of a modern superyacht fleet.
  • Phase 3 (Q3 2026): Expansion will extend capacity to 180 berths, including infrastructure designed to accommodate Asia yacht charters up to 90 metres. Key upgrades will incorporate customs and immigration processing, streamlined provisioning services, and a digital booking system to optimise marina access and guest coordination.
  • Phase 4 (Q4 2027): The final phase will see the development of a vibrant waterfront precinct, featuring food and beverage outlets, premium retail offerings, yacht sales offices, and dedicated venues for branded meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.

The development of Bali Benoa Marina marks a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s transition toward upscale, sustainable tourism. We believe that marine tourism — rooted in our rich maritime heritage — can be one of Indonesia’s strongest offerings on the global tourism stage.

Developing the Future of Indonesia Yacht Charters

Also working to further enhance the region's appeal as a yacht charter destination, tucked along the unspoiled coastline of West Lombok, the upcoming Batulayar Marina is also poised to adorn Indonesia’s marine landscape.

Scheduled to open in 2026, this world-class development will introduce approximately 120 berths, purpose-built to accommodate superyacht charters up to 90 metres in length, firmly placing Lombok on the map for Southeast Asia yacht charter itineraries. With a plan to span 60,000 m², the project features a yacht club, luxury villas, and premium dining.

Strategically positioned to complement Bali’s established charter scene, Batulayar Marina will offer charter guests an enticing alternative, with direct cruising access to the Gili Islands, Sumbawa, and the Komodo archipelago.
