Venice, Italy
29 Aug - 8 Sep 2018
For 10 days this summer, the Lido of Venice will transform into the capital of cinema as film stars and superyachts roll into town for the Venice Film Festival.
Getting underway on 29 August, the Venice Film Festival will return to Italy in 2018 for its 75th edition with a line-up of movie screenings, red carpet action and exclusive parties.
Held every year in Venice’s historic Palazzo del Cinema, the event is the oldest festival of its kind in the world, and aims to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue.
A highlight of the festival is the moment when the winner of the iconic Golden Lion prize is revealed. Last year, Guillermo del Toro’s romantic fantasy The Shape of Water scooped the top film prize.
At the 2018 event, these awards and other official prizes will be handed out during a closing ceremony led by Michele Riondino on 8 September. The award-winning Italian actor will also host the inauguration ceremony.
The event also organises retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema. This year, there will be an exhibition on the history of Venice Film Festival at the Hotel Des Bains.
Over the years, superyachts lined up in the marina opposite St Mark’s Square have become a regular sight at the festival and it’s possible to arrange a luxury yacht charter to coincide with the event. For more details, speak to your preferred charter broker.
