Separating Gam from the neighboring island, Waigeo, Kabui Bay has something for everyone in your Raja Ampat charter party: from pristine beaches to excellent diving opportunities, it is the perfect place to spend the day exploring the region’s world-renowned natural landscape.
Kabui Bay is situated on the eastern side of Gam, offering access to the incredibly biodiverse dive site known as The Passage. Be sure to charter a motor yacht or sailing yacht with plenty of snorkeling and diving gear as this dive site on Kabui Bay is replete with vibrant coral reefs and other marine life like turtles, pygmy seahorses, and manta rays.

The Passage
Dive Site
For those less keen on diving, you can still enjoy a breathtaking view out over this narrow fjord-like passage from Kabui Bay; by the entrance to this dive site there is a viewpoint for The Passage reachable via a short hike. From this viewpoint, you can also enjoy the bay’s characteristic limestone karst islets that are covered in lush rainforest and mangrove forests.
To make the most of the water toys onboard your charter yacht, we recommend kayaking or paddle boarding north of the bay where Pencil Rock (locally known as Batu Pensil ) promises yet even more amazing views and photo opportunities. Along the way you can marvel at the mangroves that line the water’s edge that are home to a wide array of wildlife. Be sure to look out for the hidden lagoons that have been formed by the karst islets too.
After a morning of diving and kayaking, dry off under the warm Indonesian sun on one of the white sandy beaches located in the southern parts of Kabui Bay. Given that the Raja Ampat is still relatively unknown, these beaches have all the allure of the tropical beaches found in other South East Asian countries, without the buzz of tourists. Be sure to have a picnic prepared to enjoy on the sands of this quiet, secluded paradise. Alternatively, why not unwind on the beach at sundown to enjoy your favorite drink in front of a pink and orange-streaked sky.
Other on-land activities include hikes through the bay’s rainforests where you can enjoy some bird-watching and go in search of bat caves or even ancient burial sites. Indeed, you could travel northeast of the bay to visit the Waigeo village of Wawiyai which is the site of the relics associated with the founding myth that gave the Raja Ampat its name.
If you are keen on learning more about the local culture, you can hike to another village named Bouton which is located on a small hillside in the bay. The community there is known for its specialization in the production of dried and salted tiny fish which you can try for a more authentic experience of island life.
With such a wide variety of different activities to enjoy at Kabui Bay, this is an essential stop during your luxury yacht charter so be sure to speak with your preferred charter broker to arrange a visit.
