Video – Superyacht SAVANNAH Launching from Feadship

By Editorial Team   26 January 2015

In this video published by ‘mrexumas’ on YouTube we see the 83.5m/274ft motor yacht SAVANNAH (project 686) at the De Vries Feadship yard where she was launched on Sunday 25th January.

M/Y SAVANNAH is the world’s first hybrid superyacht, custom-built to combine a single diesel engine, three gensets, batteries, propeller, azimuting thruster and a streamlined hull shape that together ensure fuel efficient, eco-friendly cruising. Upon delivery to her Owner she will be made available for charter to select clients who will be amongst a lucky few to experience her highly innovative design and unique layout first-hand.

According to Feadship CEO Henk De Vries, the construction of SAVANNAH was influenced in certain ways by the 2012 launched 78m/256ft superyacht VENUS, in regards the use of glass and the vertical bow. Her interior has also been meticulously laid-out according the Owner’s requirements to offer a unique main deck living areas that encompasses one large indoor/outdoor space lined with weather tight windows.

2015 looks set to be an exciting year for Feadship, with a 101m motor yacht – the largest in the builder’s history – set to be launched at the end of this month. Additionally this will be the first commercially specified yacht to be rolled out, a milestone that the internationally acclaimed shipyard has taken its time to achieve while being dedicated to providing the unsurpassed quality for which they are famed.

In a recent interview Henk commented: ‘When we build big, we take our time – not only in the completion of the individual project but we have taken our time to get up there….For many years we have had self-imposed limits on where we felt we were comfortable creating large projects at the level of quality our clients expect.’

Feadship has long been known for its pedigree and ongoing commitment to quality, innovation-led designs. In 2005 it turned its attention to larger yachts, though despite strong competition in an industry that is constantly producing increasingly large superyachts, it has stayed true to developing construction methods over time that ensure quality is never compromised. This year will also see the launch of another no doubt successful collaboration with Dubois to follow the 46m/151ft motor yacht COMO which was one of the stand-out vessels at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show.
