Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will open the inaugural Thailand Yacht Show at an official ceremony on 11th February.
The debut event, taking place at the Ao Po Marina in Phuket, will showcase charter yachts in the South East Asia region as well as Thailand’s luxury lifestyle offering.
It was General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s own initiative to create an international yachting show for Thailand and he also aims to make Phuket the principle hub for superyachts in Asia.
The Prime Minister’s attendance was announced last week at a press conference in Bangkok. Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Transport and Marine Department were also in the capital showing their support for the new four-day yacht show.
Foreign-flagged superyachts can now charter in Thailand following the launch of a new permit last summer, and the show will continue the Thai Government’s plans to attract yachts to visit and stay in Thai waters.
Marine festivities will extend for seven days with a programme of familiarisation visits, industry seminars and a sailing regatta running from 8th to 10th February before the main event kicks off.
At the press conference Mr Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport for Thailand, said: “This show will be a key driver for sustainable economic growth in all aspects, ranging from promoting the tourism sector to creating inspiration and a vibrant atmosphere for the marine industry”.
Charter yachts already confirmed to attend include the 73m/240ft superyacht TITANIA, the 69m/226ft superyacht SALUZI and the 50/167ft superyacht ‘Northern Sun’.
