Superyacht Charters in Indonesia Now Easier

By Editorial Team   18 February 2015

New changes to legislation regarding yachts visiting Indonesia is expected to make chartering a superyacht in the region considerably easier.

Of the six key changes announced by Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS), particularly noteworthy is the news that foreign yachts will now only need clearances at first entry and last exit ports (i.e. domestic clearances are not needed). Therefore the SPB sailing permit from Harbourmaster received at the first entry port will suffice to cover all domestic travel until the exit port.

Speaking on this change, APS Indonesia commented, “This is a huge change and APS Indonesia has protested long and hard against this and we are thrilled to finally have this actioned.” They added, “We consider this the biggest change to Indonesia's foreign yacht policy and are excited to see how it all translates in reality during the coming years.”

In a move to make the permit system quicker, Cruising Permits are now available from an online e-CAIT system, which can be used by both agents and individuals. The system is expected to deliver permits within 24 hours following an application.

Furthermore, foreign yacht owners and their representatives are now able to sign the guarantee for Customs temporary import.

Two other changes announced by APS include legislation forbidding foreign yachts from commercial activity in Indonesian waters, and the opening of new marine tourism facilities to the public, which they hope local government and private partnerships will facilitate.

We consider this the biggest change to Indonesia's foreign yacht policy and are excited to see how it all translates in reality during the coming years.
