Rip-Roaring Success for Charter Yachts at the Caribbean Regatta and Rendezvous

By Rebecca Bradbury   14 March 2016

Three days of thrilling competition at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous concluded yesterday with three charter yachts sailing to victory in their respective classes.

Taking place in the British Virgin Islands, the event proved to be another nail-biting edition, where victory for most of the competing sailing yachts came down to their performance in the final day of racing.

Class B boasted a different winner on each of the three race days, with sailing yacht P2 claiming her first bullet of the competition on day three and soaring to overall victory as her nearest rival, sailing yacht HETAIROS, finished in a disappointing fifth place.

P2’s tactician Tony Rey explained some of the challenges the crew faced: “This is a new boat for our team and luckily on the last day everything came right for us. It’s been a challenge for us to figure out how to do things ‘the P2 way’ but we improved each day and that was the goal, to feel like we’re sailing the boat better every time we pulled the sails on.”

In class C, sailing yacht ‘Bella Ragazza’ managed to cross the finish line in first place on the final day, but it wasn’t enough to take the winning crown away from sailing yacht SEAHAWK, who already had two consecutive victories under her belt.

Meanwhile, third place in Class C went to sailing yacht OHANA and the undisputed winner of class D was sailing yacht FREYA, with three bullets posted.

The top scored superyacht overall went to sailing yacht NILAYA, who clinched first place in Class A after a tough battle against sailing yacht INOUI.
