Monaco Historic Grand Prix 2018 gets underway

By Rebecca Bradbury   11 May 2018

Vintage sports cars are now battling it out on the streets of Monaco for the 2018 Monaco Historic Grand Prix as a glittering fleet of superyachts are berthed trackside to take in the thrilling action.

The Monaco Historic Grand Prix, running this year from 11 to 13 May, takes place bi-annually and never fails to attract some of the world’s finest luxury yachts, including some top charter options.

A highly-anticipated date on the Mediterranean’s event calendar, the sporting fixture has strict rules ensuring only authentic historic race cars can enter into the competition. This means spectators are transported back in time to various eras throughout the 20th century.

Those lucky enough to be watching from a superyacht berthed trackside in Port Hercules have some of the best seats in the house. Indeed, a private yacht charter enables guests to experience some of the finest views possible in true VIP surrounds.

A number of classic Feadship yachts have been spotted berthed in zone A, mirroring the classic cars zooming around the track. These include the 32m/105ft charter yacht ‘Heavenly Daze’ from 1972, the 28m/92ft charter yacht NAJADE from 1965 and the 26m/85ft charter yacht SULTANA from 1969.

Two other Feadship yachts in Monaco for the racing include the 43m/141ft charter yacht ECLIPSE from Feadship and the 50m/164ft charter yacht HANIKON.

Meanwhile, among the top charter options standing out in Zone A are the 40m/131ft charter yacht THUMPER from Sunseeker, the 55m/180ft charter yacht ELIXIR from Amels and Benetti’s 42m/138ft charter yacht WILLOW, which was launched just last year.

There is also a lively social scene that accompanies the event and guests can experience all the glitz and glamour Monaco has to offer. When the racing is over, superyacht parties are expected to commence alongside the principality’s five-star dining and unbridled nightlife offerings.
