Fully-converted 68m explorer yacht RAGNAR hits the water at Icon Yachts

After a 2-year conversion with Icon Yachts, the 68m/224ft explorer yacht RAGNAR has been given a new lease of life as a luxury charter yacht.

RAGNAR made her first appearance on Friday, showing off her all-new look as she emerged from the shed at Icon's facilities in Harlingen.

The yacht marks an exciting addition to the charter fleet. She is LY3 (Large Yacht Code) compliant and is one of the few explorer yachts with an ICE Class A1 hull.

She will be available to charter in some of the most high-latitude regions on earth, as she is equipped with PC5-rated ice-breaking pods that are capable of ‘chewing through’ thick sheets of Arctic ice.

Initially launched in 2012 as an icebreaker supply vessel named Sanaborg, RAGNAR has been undergoing a conversion with the Dutch yard since July 2017.

Her exterior styling comes courtesy of Redman Whiteley-Dixon, and borrow inspiration from "medieval war craftsmanship", and "British heritage", according to the design studio. She has been described as a "rhino disguised as a swan" by Icon.

She is one of the few explorer yachts with an ICE Class A1 hull.

The 2,450 GT superyacht features a certified helicopter landing pad and a dedicated deck for housing a locker of accessories, including a Ripsaw EV2 super tank, Sea explorer submarine and a light utility helicopter with refuelling station.

On-board highlights include a fully-equipped wellness centre with a snow room, rainforest shower and classic spa facilities including a steam room and sauna.

ICON Yachts has added extra cabins to house a total of 16 guests in seven staterooms, which includes two owner’s suites.

Other stand-out features include a video games centre, a large swimming pool, a wine cellar and a deck jacuzzi.

She has been converted for an experienced owner, who has extensive experience chartering expedition yachts in some of the planet’s most remote cruising regions.

Following delivery, the yacht will be open to charter in destinations including Greenland and Alaska.
