FLIBS 2018 hosts its first-ever yacht chef competition

By Rebecca Bradbury   22 October 2018

Some of the best superyacht chefs on the planet will go head to head in a brand new ‘Iron Chef-style’ showdown at next week's Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.

Bringing together chefs from the show’s registered vessels, the contest will take place at Florida’s Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina on Thursday 1 November from 18.30 to 22.30.

Chefs will be competing for the Wine Enthusiast Award for Best Yacht Chef and will have to impress a line-up of special guest judges, including NBA all-star and founder of the Mourning Family Foundation, Alonzo Mourning, Wine Enthusiast contributing editor Nils Bernstein and dining critic Mike Mayo.

Celebrity chef, author and TV personality Ingrid Hoffman also has an important role to play in the upscale culinary event as the host and MC.

Attendees at FLIBS will be able to buy tickets to watch the contest, and the evening will also include a premium open bar and tastings from luxury food purveyors.

The culinary offering is a crucial component of any yacht charter, and competitions such as these provide a key insight into the amazing artistry and cooking skills of yacht chefs. It also showcases the calibre of food charterers can expect when on board and a win can help set the yacht apart from others in its class.

The 59th edition of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show runs from 31 October to 4 November and will present more than 1,500 boats. Of these, there will be a number of superyachts available for charter such as the 63m/2015ft luxury yacht ‘Party Girl’ and the 60m/197ft superyacht ELYSIAN.

It is not yet known what yacht chefs will be competing in the new competition, but YachtCharterFleet will be sure to keep you updated on the results if any charter yachts triumph.

For more details on any yachts attending the boat show, talk to your preferred charter broker.
