Five of the Best Superyachts Attending the MYBA Charter Show 2017

By Rebecca Bradbury   21 April 2017

The MYBA Charter Show 2017 will welcome a fantastic fleet of superyachts to the OneOcean Port Vell marina in Barcelona, Spain, when it gets underway next week on Monday 24th April.

Preparing for its 29th edition, the MYBA Charter Show is one of the most important exhibitions dedicated to charter professionals and superyachts. This year, the four-day event will take place in Barcelona for the very first time in nearly three decades.

Open to trade only, the show will include a superyacht chefs’ competition, cocktail parties, and a seminar discussing charters in Spain and the Balearic Islands, as well as no-end of viewings aboard the 36 luxury yachts in attendance.

In this article, we pick out five of the best charter yachts appearing at the show.

JOY

The must-see superyacht of the show will undoubtedly be the 70m/230ft luxury yacht JOY. One of the most exciting launches of 2016, the Feadship-build wowed the industry following her launch, picking up a prestigious Showboats Award for her Bannenberg & Rowell-designed exterior.

Not afraid of breaking conventions, the yacht was designed with an outdoor lifestyle in mind, placing much emphasis on the expansive exterior areas across her five decks. Features include air-conditioned, glass-enclosed winter gardens, and a games deck for basketball and badminton.

Styled by Studio Indigo, her vibrant interior is also unmissable, and she is teaming with modern facilities. In particular, she is dedicated to health and wellness, with a large gym, spa room and on board masseuse.

INDIAN EMPRESS

Originally launched by Oceanco in 2000, the magnificent 95m/312ft superyacht ‘Indian Empress’ underwent an extensive £5 million refit in 2015. Her sheer scale never fails to turn heads and her new look interior from Mark Berryman Design continues to impress all those who step aboard.

Among her highlights are a beauty salon, sauna, steam room and massage room, a fully-equipped gymnasium, and a sophisticated salon capable of hosting 24 guests at a formal dinner party. The expansive master suite spreads across one deck and there is an 18-seat cinema.

Seducing with contrasting woods, her interior features an impressive art collection, with pieces from Picasso and Husain, and a sleek black Yamaha Disklavier, which was once owned by Elton John, greets guests in the main salon.

NERO

Another yacht showing off her new-look interior will be the 90m/296ft motor yacht NERO. Built in 2007, she seamlessly combines classic 1930s styling with modern functionality and is looking better than ever after undergoing work from designer Laura Pomponi of Luxury Projects.

Charter professionals at the show will be very interested to see how new limed oak panelling and updated upholstery has given the yacht a brighter, fresher feel. There is also a new bar to see in the skylounge, a seventh cabin, and all new fixtures and fittings.

Plus, there is a new ‘flysail’ shade system on the top deck, which offers shade over her sunning area and spa pool. As well as offering cosy nooks in which to unwind, both inside and out, she is also capable of entertaining on a grand scale on an event charter.

SILVER ANGEL

The 65m/212ft superyacht ‘Silver Angel’ from Benetti is also expected to be a favourite among show attendees thanks to her interior which, styled by Stefano Natucci, is a glittering masterpiece of modern art deco design.

Luxurious materials such as dark oak, white onyx, silver leaf and Lalique crystal create a chic, monochrome look with sleek, glossy finishes. Combined with such incomparable style is a long list of amenities, including a large mosaic pool with resistance jets.

Silver Angel definitely offers the ultimate in outdoor living on a yacht charter, with a multitude of alfresco entertainment areas, a treasure chest of water toys and a TEEIT golf machine. Plus, guests can unwind in the rejuvenating steam room and indulge in a massage from the on-board therapist.

LUCKY LADY

Previously called ‘Lady Lola’, the 62m/205ft superyacht ‘Lucky Lady’ will be another popular attendee in Barcelona, following a name change earlier this year.

An Oceanco delivery, she combines exceptional cruising capabilities with a stylish interior from Francois Zuretti and, at the time of her launch in 2002, was considered to be the highest quality yacht launched from the Dutch yard.

Norwegian birch burl wood, mahogany and marble create a sophisticated atmosphere on board alongside state-of-the-art entertainment systems and a huge master suite. On her sundeck, meanwhile, is a large splash pool with a waterfall feature and ample lounging options.
