A new superyacht marina in Costa Rica's Golfito Bay is expected to reach completion in early 2016, when it will serve as a unique charter yacht destination in Central America.
Forming part of the Golfito Marina Village and Resort development, the deep-water Blue-Flag marina will join the ranks of a limited number of marinas worldwide that have been specifically designed to berth superyachts of up to 106 metres.
Located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Golfito Bay is surrounded by year-round calm waters, which were previously inaccessible to superyachts. But now, with over 100 slips, the enclave will welcome yachts to the area for one-of-a-kind charter vacations.
The waterfront project will also see the construction of a new two-mile boardwalk as well as the adjacent development of lush parks and recreational facilities. This will add to the shopping and delectable local dining options already available in the historic Costa Rican town.
Golfito also provides access to numerous national parks including the Corcovado National Park, which is home to several endangered species and has been labelled as ‘the most biologically intense place on earth’ by the National Geographic.
Meanwhile, activities such as water skiing, parasailing and sport fishing are popular in the area, and Punta Piedra, a hot-spot for whale and dolphin sightings, is located just two miles from the bay.
As a whole, Costa Rica features long stretches of pristine coastline, beautiful diving and snorkelling spots, spectacular vistas of mountains and rugged highlands, and tranquil azure seas, all perfect for exploring on board a luxury yacht charter.
