Charter yacht OKTO participates in fundraising challenge for charity

By Katia Damborsky   3 December 2020

As the popular 66m (217ft) charter yacht OKTO makes the crossing from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, her crew will be using the 4,400 nautical mile journey to raise funds for charitable causes.

Using the hashtag #OKTOCHALLENGE, the crew of superyacht OKTO are raising awareness for their ambitious fundraising incentive which will see the 17-strong crew complete one work-out move per nautical mile of their translatlantic crossing to the Caribbean.

Whether that’s a squat, skip, star-jump or press-up, the crew will be working up a sweat as OKTO repositions for the winter.

Whether that’s a squat, skip, star-jump or press-up, the crew will be working up a sweat as OKTO repositions for the winter.

The crew are hoping to reach a £5,000 target and all funds will go towards two charities; the Antigua and Barbuda Search And Rescue (ABSAR) and MS Society UK. The crowdfunding page is still in its early days, but the crew has already raised 38% of its set goal, and the initiative will come to an end in December.

Both causes are close to the crew’s heart. The ABSAR is the region’s officially recognized search and rescue service, and it operates voluntarily 24 hours a day 365 years of the year. MS Society UK is pioneering new research, treatments and care for MS sufferers in the United Kingdom.

The crowdfunding page is still in its early days, but the crew has already raised almost 40% of its set goal.

The motor yacht was launched by Italian yard ISA in 2014 and offers accommodation for up to 11 guests in six cabins.  Her ample alfresco areas and sleek aft deck pool make her the perfect candidate for yacht charters in Antigua and other Caribbean hotspots.
