Charter Like A Legend: Lionel Messi's New Sunreef Ultima 88 Catamaran to Join the Balearics Yacht Charter Fleet With MIM Ocean

By Anna Ingles and Katie Scott   16 October 2026

Causing a huge amount of excitement in the industry, Lionel Messi is expanding his yacht charter business with a new Sunreef ULTIMA 88 power catamaran, which is currently under construction at the shipyard’s facility in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

Upon delivery, the brand-new Sunreef Ultima 88 will join the MIM Ocean Balearics yacht charter fleet, where guests will be able to secure her privately for indulgent Mediterranean cruising.

Messi's latest order adds a larger power catamaran to a fleet currently built around Bali sailing catamarans, broadening the options available to guests looking to explore the Balearics and neighboring cruising grounds of the popular charter destination.

Inside the New Sunreef ULTIMA 88

The ULTIMA 88 combines the speed-oriented profile of a power yacht with the space and shallow draft associated with a multihull.

Its layout focuses on the signature Ocean Lounge, where opening side platforms and the aft area create a waterside space for relaxing, swimming, and launching watersports gear.

The new Sunreef charter yacht is expected to accommodate 10 guests across five cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite and four guest cabins.

A dedicated garage will house a Jet Ski, while the flybridge and other outdoor lounging areas provide additional space for sunbathing, exercise, and socializing.

The model is designed around twin 1,000hp engines, although performance figures for Messi's individual yacht, MIM OCEAN 10, have not been confirmed.

Combined with its generous outdoor spaces, Messi's Ultima 88 will offer a shallow draft that can help prospective charter guests reach sheltered bays and anchorages that may be less accessible to larger Mediterranean charter yachts.

This makes the design of MIM OCEAN 10 well suited to a charter itinerary built around time on the water and moving between the Balearic Islands like Ibiza and Mallorca.

At Sunreef Yachts, we believe that true luxury is the freedom to choose how you spend your time, with the people who matter most.

Though details remain undisclosed for the official name of Messi's latest yacht on delivery, MIM OCEAN 10 aligns with the current fleet and is also a nod to Messi's iconic jersey number.

The MIM Ocean Charter Fleet

MIM Ocean was established through a partnership between Messi's MIM Hotels group and charter operator Med Cat Yachts.

The fleet currently comprises three Bali 5.4 sailing catamarans: MIM OCEAN 1, MIM OCEAN 2, and MIM OCEAN 3.

MIM OCEAN 1 and MIM OCEAN 2 each accommodate up to 11 guests, while MIM OCEAN 3 offers a four-cabin layout for up to eight guests. All three are designed around open-plan living and outdoor spaces, with a crew providing onboard service and helping guests make the most of their time at sea in the West Mediterranean.

Sunreef Yachts have the style and features I really like, and they're a perfect fit for what I'm looking for. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the ULTIMA 88 and enjoying it with my family.

Lionel Messi

The arrival of the ULTIMA 88 will introduce a different kind of charter experience to Messi's collection. Unlike the existing Bali sailing catamarans, the new Sunreef is a power catamaran, bringing a higher-speed cruising option and a different balance of onboard space and performance.

Why Choose a Catamaran Yacht Charter?

For guests planning a vacation in the Balearic Islands, a catamaran yacht charter offers several practical advantages.

Its twin-hull design provides a broad platform for living and entertaining, with room for multiple outdoor areas and a layout that can connect the saloon and cockpit to create a more open social space.

For vacations based in Ibiza, this spacious platform paves the way for legendary yacht parties with seamless access to some of the hottest venues in town.

Catamarans also tend to have a shallower draft than many monohull yachts of comparable size, allowing them to anchor closer to some beaches and sheltered coves. This can be useful around the Balearics, where a charter itinerary may combine time at anchor, swimming stops and visits to different islands.

Stability is another consideration, particularly for guests who want to spend long periods relaxing onboard or enjoying meals outdoors. The wider platform can feel different from a monohull, while separate hulls also allow accommodation and living spaces to be arranged with a degree of separation.

Want to experience the Balearics in Ultima style?

Due to be delivered in 2027, MIM OCEAN 10 will be exploring the Spanish coasts in an undeniably stylish manner. To be among the first on board, now is the time to start making plans.
