Looking fresh as a pin, with a raft of extra features, the Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin island's idyllic Virgin Gorda has finally reopened and is now welcoming yachts to experience her upgraded facilities in style.
Reduced to rubble in 2017 when Hurricane Irma unleashed her Category 5 fury on the Caribbean island, the rebuilding of the yacht club, located in Virgin Gorda’s sheltered North Sound, has been a process of painstaking “heavy lifting”, not helped by restrictions faced during the pandemic when the British Virgin Islands closed their doors to visitors.
However, the owners, whose family have owned the Bitter End Yacht Club for more than a half-century, chose to grab the opportunity presented by the catastrophe to rebuild better, with a keen awareness of their environmental footprint throughout the process, whilst remaining true to their roots in response to overwhelming feedback from their regular visitors.
The newly opened facilities include a reconstructed dock with 25 slips, a number of dining options, a provision market and the Reef Sampler – a vessel sunk during the hurricane that has been raised and restored as a beautiful beach bar.
In addition to the 25 marina slips, the Bitter End Yacht Club will also offer 70 mooring balls, 15 of which can be reserved, as well as enhanced WiFi facilities throughout.
Characterized by verdurous islands sprinkled like emerald drops in the Caribbean Sea, where each exquisite isle is fringed by swaying palms and platinum sand beaches lapped by heavenly turquoise waters; the British Virgin Islands are surely one of nature's finest creations.
