The product of eight industrious years and over eight hundred cubic metres of wood, the 51m/167ft charter yacht ‘Dunia Baru’ is in every respect a jewel of Indonesia. Conceived by an experienced and local yachtsman, the vessel fuses luxury amenities with an interior and exterior which showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of Konjo Boat Builders.
A familiar and treasured sight around Komodo and Raja Ampat, Dunia Baru has developed an enviable reputation as a vessel which is perfectly primed for her charter grounds. Indeed, her collection of diving and scuba gear, along with her kayaks and Jetskis, make her ideal for exploring the acclaimed scuba spots to be found in this part of South East Asia.
Whilst taking her name from the Indonesian expression for ‘New World’, it is assuredly the old world which is recalled by Dunia Baru’s exterior design. Strikingly traditional whilst at the same time noticeably opulent, the dark hull and impressive rigging make her the most iconic phinisi on the water. Likewise, a collection of discreetly placed lights illuminate Dunia Baru at night to ensure she remains a spectacle at all times. Overall, such exterior styling reveals the adventurous philosophy which inspired the vessel’s construction, and hints towards the elegance to be found inside.
Following the delivery of her ironwood hull, Dunia Baru was transported to Bali to receive an interior from a series of expert carpenters based in Bali. A masterpiece in carpentry, all of her fixtures and furnishings have been meticulously finished to an exacting standard, and the materials have been sourced from a number of internationally recognised locations. Orientated around a uniquely convenient layout, areas like the open-style galley and bridge are replete with subtle touches such as intricate wooden weaves and immaculately grained panelling. Sure to satisfy charterers more familiar with modern motor yachts, the communal and private spaces ultimately form something of a tranquil retreat to rest up in following an active day out on the water.
Comprised of a single master cabin and six double suites, Dunia Baru is capable of berthing up to fourteen guests whilst away on charter. All adorned with engaging works of art and flanked with warm woods, there’s no doubt that the relaxed aesthetic of the various staterooms is consistent with the theme which governs the vessel more broadly. Nicely integrated into this traditional design is the addition of a television to guarantee guests are never left wanting. What’s more, with the master presiding on the bridge deck and the remaining guests occupying the lower deck, such an arrangement frees up additional space on the main deck for parties to relax together in a more social environment.
Emerging out of the spirit of Indonesia, Dunia Baru is equipped with all of the necessary amenities and features for enjoying its spectacular geography. Her tenders, for example, have all been carefully selected to allow charterers to explore the waters at their own pace, and in the utmost comfort. The enlisting of a certified dive instructor also means that getting to know the richly varied marine life on offer around her charter grounds could not be easier. Similarly, a spacious and furnished area above the bridge deck serves as an observation platform for taking in the oceanic panoramas when on board the vessel. In the evenings, the main salon provides a range of entertainment options for guests of all ages as well as being designed for simply enjoying time spent with friends and family over a few drinks.
