High up on Ibiza’s north coast, Hacienda Na Xamena is a romantic clifftop hotel with unbeatable views, an alluring spa and a terrific restaurant helmed by a Michelin-starred chef.
The first five-star hotel in Ibiza, earning the accolade in 1988, Hacienda Na Xamena was built from 1969 to 1971 by Belgian architect Daniel Lipszyc, who put all his efforts into ensuring the hotel exuded the authentic, hippie White Isle feel while offering top-notch service.
Around 50 years later the hotel has lost none of its charm, despite being continually invested in over the years, and is still family-run. Built into the side of a cliff and surrounded by fragrant pine trees and a natural park, the retreat feels a world away from the hubbub of Ibiza town and party central Playa d’Bosa.
This makes Hacienda Na Xamena ideal for those looking to extend their Ibiza yacht charter with a night or two in a ultra-luxury hotel on the island’s quieter side, as well as yacht-goers seeking out exceptional dining or spa facilities for the day.
Most of the 77 rooms come with a sea view and all have a Jacuzzi-bath by the floor-to-ceiling windows as well as a terrace or a balcony. Eden rooms and suites even come with their own mini-pool.
As for the décor, think crisp white linen, pale woods, concrete floors, white orchids and low-slung wooden tables for the very best in laidback Ibizan chic. Meanwhile, the communal areas have an eclectic feel to them and the palm tree-encircled terraces feature traditional Spanish tiling.
The hotel is jam-packed with facilities. It has two outdoor infinity pools, one indoor pool, a screening room, a games area with foosball and table tennis, a Technogym, an outdoor sandpit for volley ball or boules and bikes to explore the surrounding hills.
Breakfast can be enjoyed at the By The Pool eatery, reserved exclusively for resident guests, but the two-Michelin-star Edén Restaurant is where Hacienda Na Xamena excels since being taken over by Spanish culinary genius Fran López in 2018.
Described as simple, organic and resourceful, the menu takes its inspiration from the Mediterranean. Starters include the likes of cherry gazpacho with prawns and tuna tartar with caviar emulsion while oysters, sea bass and veal candied beef are among the mains.
The rice dishes, such as the mushroom, Iberian and Mahon cheese risotto, are widely celebrated, too. The views are likewise exceptional, and the Edén Lounge features live music throughout the summer, although there are minimum spend obligations and reservations are essential.
Taking its name from Ibiza’s protected seaweed, La Posidonia spa at Hacienda Na Xamena offers an array of traditional therapies and sumptuous SkinCeutical facial treatments alongside yoga, meditation and stretching sessions.
The highlight, however, has to be the Cascadas Suspendidas, a relaxing thalassotherapy experience where spa-goers gradually move through a series of eight different mini-pools of varying temperatures and hydro-jet pressures all while gazing out over the Mediterranean.
Due to the hotel’s isolated position 130 metres above the sea, yacht-goers will have to anchor off Cala Benirras, take a tender ashore and finish with a 15-minute drive. For more information about visiting Hacienda Na Xamena on a superyacht vacation, speak to your preferred charter broker.
