Located in Helsinki’s busy Narinkka Square, Kamppi Chapel of Silence offers a welcome and unexpected respite from the noise of the city that surrounds.
Totally unique, the Kamppi Chapel of Silence is a bizarre-looking curved structure built to provide you with a period of heavenly silence amidst the major commercial hub of one of the busiest places in Finland.
Located at Narinkkatori Square near the entrance to the Kamppi shopping complex, it does not appear to be a typical chapel at first glance with its curved wooden façade and warm interior made from thick oiled alder planks but it instantly catches your attention.
A place so beautifully designed and filled with peace and tranquility, I would highly recommend visiting this chapel of silence.
The chapel, from 2012, was designed by architects Mikko Summanen, Niko Sirola and Kimmo Lintula from the Helsinki-based practice K2S Architects.
The curved shape of the small-scale Chapel building allows the space and views to flow in the urban surroundings. At the same time, the soft shape of the inside of the Chapel embraces the visitor in its safety. Soft lighting filters into the chapel during the day, making it a calming place to contemplate your journey, sit back and relax.
