The Panathenaic stadium was built in the 6th century BC and restored for the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and is the only stadium in the world to be built entirely out of marble.
With its multiple rows of white Pentelic marble seats built into a ravine next to Ardettos Hill, this ancient-turned-modern stadium is a draw both for lovers of classical greek architecture and sports fans who can imagine the roar of the crowds from millennia past.
Standing in a stadium where you can almost feel the energy from ancient times is a truly magnificent experience. Totally breathtaking.
The stadium continues to hold significant cultural, sporting and ceremonial events. Seating 70,000 spectators, the stadium is now occasionally used for concerts and public events as well as morning joggers who are welcome here from 7:30am to 9am.
If you want to incorporate a trip to see the grand Panathenaic stadium into your charter itinerary, please speak with your preferred yacht charter broker.
Alternatively, you can view the entire fleet of superyachts available for Greece yacht charters.
